Prof. Georgina Born (musicologist/anthropologist)

Georgina Born is Professor of Music and Anthropology at the University of Oxford. Amongst her specialities are music in the late twentieth and twenty-first centuries, music and mediation, social and cultural theory, and ethnography. She has a particular interest in interdisciplinarity and, since 2010, has directed the research programme “Music, Digitisation, Mediation: Towards Interdisciplinary Music Studies”. Publications include “Music and the Materialisation of Identities” (2011), “For a Relational Musicology: Music and Interdisciplinarity, Beyond the Practice Turn” (2010), and the edited volume (with Desmond Hesmondhalgh) Western Music and its Others: Difference, Representation and Appropriation in Music (2000).
